In July, Covington County Hospital’s drive thru Covid-19 testing center swabbed 4,489 individuals for the virus. Since the pandemic began, CCH has tested more than 10,000 individuals for Covid-19.
The hospital’s drive thru testing center is one of the few locations in the area with rapid testing, meaning individuals can typically expect to have their test results within 24 hours of being swabbed.
“Our laboratory is currently using the Quidel Sars-Cov2 Antigen test to provide results for suspected Covid-19 infections,” said Debbie Bishop, CCH Laboratory Director. “We have performed a number of studies in our laboratory to correlate our results with those of the Mississippi Public Health Laboratories to ensure the utmost accuracy in our testing.”
The quick turnaround with lab results has allowed people to feel a sense of safety resuming some essential activities.
“Many people depend on quick test results to be able to go back to work or know if they can safely spend time with their family,” said Santana Fulcher, CCH Clinic Director. “We have seen people drive from all over because we are able to provide those quick results.”
In early August, the hospital opened two new clinics, each equipped with a drive thru for Covid-19 testing. The clinics, located in Taylorsville and Sumrall, hope to provide the same service to those communities, while also establishing relationships to provide long term care in those areas.
