$4 Million Construction Project Will Improve Patient Comfort, Convenience The moment they arrive, patients will appreciate the results of an upcoming $4 million Covington County Hospital construction project. Said Administrator and CEO Gregg Gibbes, “We’re going to move the admissions and waiting room area to the front of the hospital, where it should be.” A new entrance – part of a welcoming new facade for the front of the hospital – will lead to that admissions area. A portico-covered drop-off zone and a nearby parking lot will add to the convenience. Now in a Busy Area The admissions department is currently in a bustling area in the middle of the hospital. “One of our focuses is always to create an environment that feels more secure, that feels more comfortable,” Gibbes said. “We want the patients to feel like they’re progressing through the visit in a timely manner.” A $4 million grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration is funding the improvements. The HRSA aims to improve healthcare for residents of rural areas and other underserved populations. ‘Very Blessed’ “We’re very blessed to be able to be awarded this money,” Gibbes said. “It’s a very competitive process.” The hospital has been designing and budgeting for the project to prepare for seeking bids. Construction should start in late 2023 or early 2024. The business office will move next to the new admissions area. The Physical Therapy Department and the specialty clinic will relocate to the former Family Medical Associates space on the Holly Avenue side of the hospital. 2023 Fall/Winter 14
