In recognition of Blood Donor Awareness Month, Covington County Hospital will host a blood drive on Thursday, January 9, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. The Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) donor coach will be parked next to the Emergency entrance on Hospital Boulevard (south 7th Street). Volunteer blood donors provide the safest blood available for patients. While it takes less than an hour, donating blood can give someone a lifetime.
All blood types are needed, and Mississippi is especially in need of B+ and O+ blood types. B-, O-, and platelets are in severe shortage. A VISA $15 gift card will be given to all donors.
Appointments for donation can be scheduled online at www.msblood.com via the donor portal. Donors may also now complete the donor history portion before donating; however, the online form must be completed on the day of donation only. The CCH Blood Donation code for website signup is 1755.
All donors must bring valid identification. Donors must weigh 110 pounds, be in good health, and be at least 16 years old with parental consent or 17 years old without parental consent. All donors should eat at least four hours before giving blood and drink plenty of fluids before and after donating.
