Psychiatric Mental Health
Covington Place Therapy & Counseling
Jacob Kay, PMHNP-BC, is a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner at Covington Place Therapy & Counseling, specializing in psychiatric and mental health conditions, with a particular focus on addiction and treatment-resistant depression.
Jacob began his nursing career at Forrest General Hospital as a registered nurse in the Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit. He later spent nine years on the Forrest General Hospital Epic team, ultimately serving as a Senior Epic Analyst.
He then joined Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services, where he began as a weekend house supervisor before transitioning to inpatient psychiatry. During his time at Pine Grove, he established the SPRAVATO® (esketamine) program for patients with treatment-resistant depression. He also treated patients with substance-use disorders through Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and provided care on the child and adolescent unit.
His experience across nursing, health information technology, and behavioral health has shaped his approach to psychiatric care, particularly in treating addiction and treatment-resistant depression.
He earned his master’s degree from Northern Kentucky University in 2022. He graduated with highest honors from The University of Southern Mississippi’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in 2020 and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau. He earned his associate degree in nursing from Jones College.
A Hattiesburg native with family ties to Covington County, Jacob enjoys spending time outdoors, especially landscaping and fishing.
“I want to be able to help people with the stigma of mental health. The stigma can be from the outside, but also from the inside, as people have their own self-stigma. Those who suffer from mental health issues are the forgotten patient population. People worry about all the physical health, while mental health ends up on the back burner because people are afraid. Treating those with addiction has also played a role in my career choice.”— Jacob Daniel Kay, PMHNP-BC
