Covington County Hospital proudly welcomes board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Kenneth Daughtrey to CCH’s Senior Care Unit.
Dr. Daughtrey’s experience includes 28 years as a psychiatrist with the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield. After retirement, he worked two years with CCH’s Behavioral Health Unit. Most recently, he served patients at the Sojourner’s Unit at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital and spent the last four years in that hospital’s Intensive Outpatient Program.
“It’s great to be back at Covington County Hospital. I know a lot of the staff from when I was here previously. They are a wonderful group of people who are helpful, friendly, and work well together,” says Daughtrey. “They take the needs of the patient very seriously.”
A graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1986, Dr. Daughtrey’s areas of professional interest includes the treatment of adults with mental illness, dementia, and changes in mental status.
“People are living to an older age with advancements in health care. As the population ages, cognitive disorders become more of an issue,” said Daughtrey. “It is important to rule out medical causes of change in mental status. Something as simple as a urinary tract infection can lead to profound confusion and hallucinations in the elderly.”
Daughtrey says leading a healthy lifestyle is one thing people can do to improve cardiovascular health which makes an impact on the development of cognitive disorders.
When not treating patients, Dr. Daughtrey can often be seen walking about town with his spouse and their two dogs Ruby and Nora.
